Xerox subsidiary buys medical records company

Office equipment and software maker Xerox Corp. announced that its ACS subsidiary bought The Breakaway Group, a cloud-computing company, to expand its electronic medical records business.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Breakaway Group, based in Denver, owns a training simulation program called PromisePoint that helps medical workers learn to use electronic records. The training can be customized to imitate the records systems for different hospitals or doctors. Workers can practice using electronic records without jeopardizing real patient data.

Xerox said the PromisePoint program speeds adoption of electronic records by up to 70 percent, compared to the industry standard.
